5 Tips to Speed up Your Smartphone

Android
Has your smartphone behavior gone from a hasty butterfly to a sloppy sloth? Has it lost all obedience to your touch? We bring you five ways to cleanse and rejuvenate your Android smartphone and bring it back; like the swift animal it was when you first used it.
PS: Before starting, backup all your important data and contacts. This will help you bear no ill-will against us, if by chance precious things staying inside your phone are gone forever
1.       Clear unwanted apps
Apps are a plenty in the Android play store and we all are tempted to try them out every now and then. And why shouldn’t we, they are fun and But many don’t turn out to be the power app it was supposed to be. Okay, you didn’t read the reviews or maybe you did but still wanted to give it a try. All done, we throw out some abuses and exit the application, only to forget and let it live in our phone.
Apps like these need to be given an exile to lighten the load on your phone memory. And here’s the way to do just that.
  • In the settings menu of your phone, look for apps. If you have an older version of android, it would be mentioned as applications.
  • Under the Downloaded tab, you will find all the apps you ever downloaded, listed in alphabetical order.
apps
  • Find and select the unwanted app, the app info page will open. In the app info, hituninstall and the app will be gone.
  • You can also disable notifications that the app shows every time you connect to the Internet from the app info page itself. Just uncheck the Show notifications option.
Cleanup through apps
If you don’t want to go through all those steps and nitpick few junk files manually, you can install an app that would take care of it. It won’t be as effective or as cautious with your files, but it would be time saving and won’t be very choosy (or emotional) while throwing the junk out. Moreover, it may delete files that can’t be manually deleted.
memory scan
We found few useful apps in Play store like Clean Master and Android Cleaner fit and fine for the job. You can download any one or try some others as the options are plenty. Make sure to wipe out the extra ones later.
2.       Speed up through apps
If your phone has no major effect of the above techniques or slides back to the same state some time later, you can install some apps meant to constantly monitor your phone and keep it clear of app cache or ones running in background.
optimize
But they will be constantly running in the background for that purpose.
3.       Turn off auto updates
By default, applications are allowed to download updates from the play store automatically. This would result in data charges. Even if updating through Wi-Fi, they would slow down the phone and might unnecessarily pile on the phone storage.
This preference can be changed from the play store settings.
  • Open play store in your Android phone and press the menu button on your phone.
  • Select settings from the menu to open settings page.
  • Select the Auto-update apps option and choose ‘Do not auto-update apps’option.
setting
As soon as the you have checked the notifications box above this option in settings menu, play store will notify whenever an update is available and you can decide if you want it or not.
4.       Add external storage
If your phone is low on internal storage, it’s a big reason why your phone can’t stick to that speediness it used to earlier. Adding a microSD card to your phone (if it supports the option) will enable you to keep heavy data like music and photos on it. Moreover, some apps can also be shifted to the external storage. Just follow these steps:
  • In the settings menu, follow the first two steps as listed above
  • In the Downloaded tab list, press the menu button and select sort by size. The apps will be listed in decreasing order of their size.
  • Open the app info page of some apps high in size and check if the option-move to SD card is active. If it is, tapping it will move the app to SD card.
reset-app
Very few apps would be ready to leave the internal storage and that’s why I alwaysrecommend a smartphone having at least 8GB of internal storage.
  • To move data to the SD card, find the data in the phone storage in the file manage/explorer and long press on the icon to select it.
  • After selecting, look for the cut option (some phones also have a scissor like icon at the bottom).
  • Now go to internal storage and paste the files. The data would be moved.
5.       Do a Factory Reset
This method works best if your phone has been troubling you a lot lately and nothing of the above would bring your phone to your expectations. Or maybe rather than picking out the garbage for cleaning, why not just save what’s important and trash everything else.
Moreover, apart from making your phone new again, it might also resolve any firmware related issues you are facing with the phone like error messages, frequent battery discharge or any hangs or freezes.
But this would erase all the apps, phone contacts (You can move you contact to the SIM card) and messages from your phone but you will be given an option whether or not to erase the data on internal storage. I recommend you backup that data on you SD card and erase the internal storage as well for an effective reset. Just follow these steps:
  • In the settings menu, look for backup and reset option. If you don’t find such option, then open privacy settings.
  • Under the personal data heading you will find Factory data reset option.
  • On the factory data reset page you will find a list of things that will be erased like apps, account settings, etc.
  • Scrolling down will reveal an option of erasing internal storage. Check that box if you need to erase the internal storage as well; then hit Reset phone.
